Trois Fleurs

All stitches and techniques will be explained and demonstrated during class.
We will have three-full days of workshop time and will work on all three flowers - one a day.
Summer’s End
Summer's End heralds one of the last flowers of summer, the sunflower. We will stitch this charming design while learning the basics of silk ribbon embroidery and other canvas techniques. Dimension and texture are created by using a variety of threads and silks in various sizes. The shaded center is created with three overdyed threads, using different sizes of French knots. During class, I will also share some highlights in the history of silk ribbon embroidery and my passion for this dimensional form of needlework.
The Van Dyke stitch, Peaks & Valleys, a Turkey Work variation, French Knots, the Ribbon Stitch, and bead embroidery embellishment are used to create the design.
Bloomin’ Roses
Everything’s coming up Roses! Learn silk ribbon embroidery techniques and other surface embroidery stitches while making these lovely woven roses. During class, I will also share some highlights in the history of silk ribbon embroidery.
The hand-painted opalescent congress cloth, taped and drawn, is the perfect background fabric for these pink woven roses. A yellow and peach colorway is also offered.
The woven rose stitch, stem stitch, French Knots, detached chain, and ribbon stitch creates the arrangement. Embellishment is added with sparkly Accentuate thread and shimmering paillette sequins.
Apollo’s Favorite
This is a charming silk ribbon flower project that will teach unique silk ribbon embroidery stitches on 18-count canvas as well as other canvas & surfacework techniques. Dimension is created using textural stitches and threads. The Peony will be constructed using a layered ribbon process set on a sparkly stitched background surrounded by a woven border. Perspective is an important part of the construction of the Peony. The peony flower & center are formed using several different kinds of ribbon stitches with beads to create realistic dimension and depth.
The piece becomes a study in using a single-color variegated silk ribbon with Ribbon Stitch variations. The stem stitch/outline stitch, ribbon stitch, ribbon filling stitch, reverse ribbon stitch, raised ribbon stitch and looped ribbon stitch will be used to create the peony flower with sparkle loops and eyelash turkeywork with bead embellishments added to its center.
