Paris is home to over 130 museums that hold some of the most important art and history treasures in the entire world. We will enjoy specialized and timeless places spaces, from the magnificent Versailles Palace to the Musée’ Jouy de Toile for a lovely dive into toile. Two museums focus on fashion – the Galeria de Dior and the Palais Galleria. Muse'e Cluny is the setting for the Unicorn and the Lady.
The Musée de Cluny is a museum of medieval art in Paris. The museum houses one of the largest collections of art from the Middle Ages, consisting of 23,000 items, of which about 2,300 are exhibited. This includes the famed The Lady and the Unicorn tapestries.
The Lady and the Unicorn is the modern title given to a series of six tapestries created in the style of mille-fleurs (thousand flowers) and woven in Flanders from wool and silk, from designs drawn in Paris around 1500. "Woven in Flanders" refers to textiles, primarily tapestries and linens, that are manufactured in the historical region of Flanders, which covers parts of modern-day Belgium, France and the Netherlands. The phrase is synonymous with high-quality, heritage craftsmanship.
The Palace of Versailles is a château and historic monument in Versailles, southwest of Paris. It served as the principal residence of the French kings Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Louis XVI.
Our ticket includes the Gardens - The creation of the gardens required a monumental effort. Enormous earthworks were necessary to level the land, lay out the flowerbeds and excavate the ponds and the Canal, where only woods, meadows and marshes had previously existed. Trees were transported already large from numerous provinces of France; thousands of men, sometimes entire regiments, participated in this vast undertaking.
In 1760, Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf founded the eponymous factory in Jouy-en-Josas, revolutionizing textile printing with the famous Toile de Jouy patterns. Since 1990, the Musée de la Toile de Jouy, housed in the Château de l'Églantine, has preserved this heritage and promoted this iconic French craft.
La Galerie Dior, is the first museum of the Parisian fashion house. Located in the same building as the legendary shop, La Galerie Dior was planned as a cultural attraction in its own right, a repository of fashion memory. It is behind this emblematic facade designed in the purest French style of the second half of the 19th century, that more than seventy years of collections are found.
We are fortunate to be going to Palais Galleria – the fashion museum of Paris. They always have during a fascinating or timely exhibits. I can't wait to see what will be featured when we tour in 2027!
