Ruth's designs feature bursts of fuzzy yarn that are pulled in tight with French knots and small areas of beading.
Abstract Embroidery
A fun and mindful embroidery class. We will explore color, create texture and develop shapes, using a wide variety of yarns and threads.
Covering basic stitches and techniques, Ruth will help us to create our own individual and unique piece of work. We can expect our motifs to be full of flowers and geometric motifs, of different colors and textures and measured to achieve a balance between solids and voids, bright and opaque tones, round edges and angular points.

Ruth Hughes, aka Wild Floss Embroidery, creates abstract fiber art that is a celebration of vibrant color and dazzling texture.
Ruth is a textile artist from the United Kingdom, her artistic name is Wild Floss. In Italian Wild Floss sounds like wildflower. She creates handmade embroideries with a contemporary twist and abstract shapes that focus attention on a bold design, three-dimensional structures, and engaging color combinations. Each of her pieces develops spontaneously, guided by the fabric and material used. Design lines come to light as Ruth arranges texture, depth and shape, allowing the yarns to determine the final pattern.
